Oil Capacity 850

I've got a 93 850 GLT, 285k miles. I've had the car since summer and have changed the oil several times (as well as the rear main seal), but I can never quite remember just how much oil this thing is supposed to hold.

The reason I ask is that teh Haynes manual specifies 6.1 quarts (20V, 2.3l). But my memory seems to be that it was more like 5-5.5 quarts.

Does anyone know the official number? I don't like adding a little here and a little there...

Hey, let me know what it actually takes to fill it. Mine is a '96 with 218,000 and I have always filled with 6+ quarts. The Volvo manual won't support that, but that's what it takes to bring it near the full mark on the stick. I even replaced the stick and it's the same. Thanks

Mine too. I have a 95 850 turbo wagon and it always takes exactly 6 qts to show full on the dip stick.

It is not much of a difference but the actual capacity is 5.7 U.S. qts. with a filter change.
