Tire rub with 16' Blizzaks S70

I got a really good deal on an almost-new set of Blizzaks on rims for my 99 S70M. I had been running 15" Bridgestones on the stock steel rims. The fit guide on Tirerack said that this size of BLizzak would be ok and, in fact this wheel and tire package came from Tirerack in 2003.

I put them on today and they seem to rub going over bumps with just two small kids in the back seat. My car has 105,000 on it and has never had shocks or anything replaced. I plan to keep this car for as long as possible...will replacing the shocks or springs keep these things from rubbing. I'm already impressed with the performance of the BLizzaks and would like to be able to use them.

Thanks,

Jeff

I should note that the tires are 205 55 R16s. They came off a 1999 V70R AWD. I don't want to damage my car and I drive a lot so I want to take them off immediately if I'm going to damage the thing.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff....What wheels are you using? If they do not have the proper offset, it could explain the rubbing. Are you sure the V70R wheels have the right offset? I'm not sure...I'd be suprised if they were not right.

The wheels are 16" alloys that came from Tirerack.com and say "Sport Edition" on the hub. They look like nice 5-spoke alloys that came on the 2000 S70 GLT SE. The rims seem to fit perfectly. The indy mechanic I take the cars to (a Volvo fan also) says that the tires are just a little too tall though the rims are the right size and the offset is correct as well. I'm not inclined to put big wheels on my car for cosmetic reasons especially when I don't really need new all-season tires at the moment.

I have posted the whole kit for sale in the classified section. If I can get a few dollars for them I'm going to put it towards a set of (properly sized) snows for my 945, which needs the snows a lot more than the S70. Today it was 64 degrees in New Jersey so I haven't been too worried.

I'd like to be able to advertise the rims on Ebay or something but am not sure how to specify what vehicles other than Volvo) they might fit. Any ideas of how I could figure that one out?

Jeff

if they are 205/55/r16's its a no no....they SHOULD be 205/50/r16's...the 55's rub and cause damage...tyre places SAY they should be ok as their diameter is close to the stock size...but uts not right see bay13 for pictures of the damage...

Bay 13 seems to show damage on an 850. I realize that the S70 is an 850 derivative, but...

Is there a definitive answer?

Jeff

from the volvo VARDIS system an s70 1999 (or any other year for that matter) should be fitted with 205/55/r15's or 205/50/r16...those are the volvo recomended sizes...

i checked for s70 1999 non turbo, manual - but am fairly sure anything else will be the same 205/55/r16 is NOT a recomended size....

That may be so, but my car did in fact come from the factory with 205/55-16s. They did not rub. I say did, because now I am running 215/45/-17s
My tire specifications in the fuel door specify 205/55-16 as the proper size...this is on a 2000 S70 GLT SE.

is that a mod 2 car (i.e. new shape) 2000 was the swap date for the models....

a 1999 would be mod 1 (essentially an 850..)
