Does the iPd magnetic in-line filter properly fit the power steering return hose? V70-XC70 1999

Hello,

I have a 1999 XC. I want to install a 3/8'' magnetic in-line filter for the power steering pump. This filter is sold by iPd. In is supposed to be installed in the return hose (low pressure) line for the power steering pump. My mechanic says that based upon a visual inspection, the return hose appears to be to large in diameter to properly fit the 3/8'' filter. I called iPd and they said there is no larger filter available and that the filter should fit properly.

Before I inadvertently damage the power steering pump by installing this filter and having it leak, could someone confirm for me if they have successfully installed this filter into the power steering return line without any problems.

I have called several local auto parts stores to see if a larger diameter magnetic in-line filter is available. They all responded that the largest size available for a magnetic in-line filter is 3/8'' in diameter. Thanks to all who respond. I appreciate your help.

Hugh

I have a lefthand monkey wrench you can have to add the filter. Not much in the powersteering is magnetic as it is an aluminium alloy

S70 owner.-- I've installed a small ring shaped magnet in the reservior by dangling it from the spring on the cap with a nylon cord. The amount of black ferrous powder it picked up was amazing, leading me to install the magnafine filter. Something's wearing in there. I also cracked open a filter that was on an S 80 tranny for a year and had a thick coating of the same sort of black powder on the magnet. This satisfied my curiousity to see if this gadget was picking up anything. See photo. The big ring is the magnet. The filter below is clean!

I have this installed on my 2000 S70. It was the right size. Make sure you know which hose is the lower pressure side to avoid unpleasant excitement.

Do you have a plastic reservior? If so, the filter goes in the small hose attaching to the top of the reservior, not in the hose on the bottom of the reservior.
