Flame Trap Hose broken on engine/manifold end 850 1993

I've been smelling an oil odor when driving with the heat on / vents open and thought it might be in part due to a clogged flame trap. Well, in removing the hoses to get at the flame trap, I discovered that the hose that connects to the flame trap connecter is broken away from the other end; the exhaust manifold/engine block (not sure).

This is a hard plastic hose, not the usual rubber feel, that runs from the flame trap connecter, under the fuel line cover, and then down to the manifold / engine block.

Anyway - it looks like a huge job just to replace the hose as I can't see a way of getting at it without taking 1/2 the engine apart. Does anybody know what's involved in replacing this hose?

Thanks!
Jarvis.

    Crankcase ventilation hose 850 1993

Ok - I've discovered that it's called the Crankcase ventilation hose, and think I know how to replace it. Long needlenose pliers to remove broken piece off crankcase and then same pliers to attach new hose.

Next question - does anyone know the part # or "official" name of the hose and where I can order it. I checked out IPD quickly but didn't find anything.

    Thanks.
    Jarvis.

It is called the "oil vapor separator hose" or "oil trap hose". It is the larger hose that runs from the flame trap housing to the oil vapor separator which is attached to the engine under the engine manifold. It is a very specialized part (not much call for it) and should probably be ordered at your dealer or volvo independent parts supplier.

If only we knew what part of the world you lived in...
Call the 800 number for IPD, or email Borton.com, dealer in the twin cities.

        Thanks guys.

I'm from Vancouver British Columbia....so I just emailed the local Volvo dealership. They seemed to know what I was talking about when I asked about a "crankcase ventilation hose" / "oil vapor separator hose".

For those reading this needing the same thing, be sure to have the serial # from your timing belt cover ready. Apparently there are two different hoses, one that's about $8 US and the other that's about $40 US.

        Cheers.
