Second gear knock V70-XC70 2000

I have a V70 T5(old shape) that makes a knocking / thud sound when i first pull away and it changes up to second (automatic). This only happends after starting and not for the rest of the journey. However, once i re-start the car, it re-appears on the first change up again. It is unaffected by wheather conditions and engine temp. Although i'm sure that it is not a problem i would like to know if any one else's car has the same phenomenom and what may be the cause. I have an 850 and it does not happen on that car. Thanks in advance.

Phil

The nABS system runs a self test after every start, and cycles the pump briefly. It usually occurs around the 1-2 upshift point. I can't remember the exact spec but I think it occurs at 18MPH. It runs this test every time the car is started, only once. Then knock you hear is the pump self test.

A hard shift is usually an indicator that the tranny needs a flush. Try it and see if it makes a difference.
