Supposed to be new shoes etc., but still does not hold the car well. Is this a common problem or is something wrong. My old 200, 700 and 900 do not have this problem.

Appreciate comments and suggestions. Going into them in the morning and have a look.

I have a 5-speed so I need to use the parking brake all the time; the linings on the shoes of the mini-drums on my car de-laminated.

The first symptom of this is usually a gawdawful noise when backing up.

The second symptom is that the rear brakes will lock up.

Failure to hold is usually adjustment, tho. I mentioned the worst-case scenario above because it can really ruin your day if you're on your way to the airport to catch a flight when it happens.

Because the parking brake is a drum, there is a seperate adjustment through the drum sight hole. This should have been done when the new pads were put on. The adjustment under the console is only for the cable and is not meant to take up the slack caused by poorly adjusted drum pads.

That was the problem. Released all tension on the cable and then adjusted the star wheel and works now. The right seized more tightly, but we are in business and thanks.

You should start to feel resistance after about 3 clicks when pulling on the handle. If not the adjustment is located in the center armrest.
