Replacing 93 850 door handle- does key match handle or ignition?

My 93 850 developed a glitch this morning - the door handle will not allow the key to be inserted on the drivers door! Keyless remote worked and I can drive it. It also needs a new window regulator (which I have) and I also have a spare drivers door handle I got with the window regulator purchase.

How does the key work when replacing a handle? The handle does not have to match the key? That prospect would not add up as your key would not match the ignition?

Has anyone replaced an 850 door handle - Bay 13 has no information on it. I'm lucky I had bought the parts on ebay long before I needed them!

The key to your car will not match a different handle, otherwise anyone could get into everyone's car. . . Maybe you should switch the original passenger handle to the drivers side and put the other handle on the passenger side where you are less likely to need to use the key to enter your vehicle.

Cars with factory remotes, I think

...have one lock on the driver's door and a second one on the rear hatch or trunk. Since my car has remotes I almost never, in fact, never use the outside locks. Out of curiousity and because if the remote battery fails I'd need to use the key, a couple of years ago I tried to see if the rear hatch lock worked. It didn't apparently because of all the dirt that gets packed into the cylinder over the years. I cleaned the lock cylinder with WD-40 and then generously lubricated it with gun oil. It still worked fine as of 5 minutes ago.

I'm pretty sure the lock cylinders are the same: ignition, driver door, glovebox, trunk or rear hatch if it's a wagon. The valet key won't unlock the glovebox and trunk, I don't know about the door, but gee that would be an amazingly stupid idea if it didn't unlock the door wouldn't it?

Cold out isn't it? That happend to me last year when moisture froze the flap that is supposed to keep water and dirt out of the lock. I eventually took a small hammer and tapped my key until it went all the way in. Then I heated my key and inserted it into the lock and let the lock thaw out. My remote key fob doesn't work.

The locks all match the same key. Replacing the door lock will require a locksmith to change the tumblers to fit the old key.
