keyless entry reprogramming 850 1995

The keyless entry system on my daughter's 850 stopped working a couple of weeks ago. We replaced the batteries in both fobs and it still doesn't work. The dealer tells me I have to bring it on for reprogramming. Does anyone know how to do this without the time and expense of taking it to the dealer.

Turn the iginition on (without starting the car) five times until the LED on the dash remains lit. If the LED does not come on and remain on, the receiver is not ready for programming. With the LED on, press either the LOCK or UNLOCK button, doesn't batter which one, and the receiver will "learn" the code. Up to three codes can be stored. Good Luck!

Please note that the LED will NOT do anything on a '95 850 at the end of the
five-times on/off sequence. The car will accept programming of remotes as
described, but apparently the LED confirmation was added in later years, and
does not happen for '95 models (confirmed with my '95 855 GLT)

You are right regarding the LED not doing anything at the end of programming. In fact, the LED doesn't come on at the end of programming on any 850 model that I know of. You do however, have to see the LED lit before programming begins.

Your owner's manual explains how to program the key fob. Look under the section where it talks about replacing the battery. I seem to recall something to the effect: turn the car to ON 5 times and then push the lock button.
