Wiper Alignment Trick Please 850

You would not believe the coincidence of this, Monday my driver's side wiper (1993 GLT) gives up, the next day my wife's (1994 GLE) gives up. After of course, re-tightening the nuts my wife's car was back in business, but for some reason, mine is not clearing well still, the wiper blade rises off the windshield, RHD car so the upper right section of the windscreen is always left, very annoying. I have been pushing, pulling, bending and all sorts to get the blade back flat on the windshield, does anyone know of a remedy for this? Maybe its more of a general auto question than a Volvo issue, but please help if you can.

Don't bend the thin arm 850

My 95 did the same thing on the driver's side. Fix was to bend the bracket close to the hold down nut. It doesn't take too much pressure. Just turn the wiper on and turn off the key when the wiper is in the full up position. Bend the bracket down after you have tightened the nut.
Mine has been working well for 9 months now.

    1. Bay 13 has a temporary fix. It didn't work for me that well.

    2. Someone else had posted something that was closer to a solution. It required a dremel to file off a section of the arm that causes lift-off. When I looked at the arm and the spring closely during the wiping, it made complete sense why that would work. Can't find the message, but search might turn it up. This worked for about a year or so.

    3. One dealer I had visited said they just got a new tool to bend the arm. They did it for (I was there for other services), and worked wellm at least for serveral months.

    4. The blade got old and it left too much streaking, and a bit of lift-off again. I asked the dealer to put in a new blade, which they forgot and still charged me. I complained and they put in a winter blade. They didn't do anything about the arm lift-off, but it's been working rather well.

I'm gonna be cheap until I absolutely have to buy a new arm. Hope one of these methods works for you. I don't think any of them is a permanent solution.

it is a defect, several posts address this; however, I have a 95 850 or should say had the same problem, after having it bent by a professional I decide to purchase an arm from FCP. Although, it was a SCan Tech ???? it worked perfectly and I don't have the left hand upper part of the windshield problem, give it a try.

I have a '95 850 that the driver side wiper came off the windshield about 1/2 way through its swipe, toward the vertical post. I pulled the arm off stuck it in a vice and bent it a bit in the correct direction. Reinstalled and now it seems to clean the windshield just fine. Only been operating this way for 2weeks so can't speak to longevity.
