Driver motorized seat won't adjust, though motor sound can be heard 850 1996

The motor in the seat operates but I believe its no longer hooked up to the piece which make the seatback recline. My neighborhood gargage said I need an upholsterer. How do I solve this? Do I cut the stitching on the seatback to expose the motor then hook whatever looks unhooked back together then take it to an upholsterer? Would that be same kind that makes sofas? Any specific insight on how to spefically do this would be helpful. It only has 70k and I'd hate to get rid of it over this.

Yes, follow the Bay 13 article to remove the seat back's lower half covering. You can remove the retaining bolts that hold the motor end cable in place and warm up the metal end cap to pull it off. Then take a utility knife and trim about 3/8" of the plastic outter tubing off, then warm up the end cap and put it back on the plastic cable housing like it was when you found it. You should now have about 3/8" more cable sticking out, that's all you need to repair the whole thing. Now put it back in the motor and test it out. You may have to operate the motor in one direction or the other to recenter the recline memory position. It's just a little trial and error till you get it right. Once it's repositioned and operates back and forth like it's suppose to you can re-install the seatback upholstery using nylon tie-wraps in place of the metal hog-rings that were there, they work fine. The passenger seat will eventually do the same thing but it's a little easier to repair.

Volvospeed/bay13 has a write up on cable fittings on power seats. Sound like yours came loose. You don't need your seats disassembled and re stitched!
