93 850 GLT Engine Knocking 850

When this car idles there is a knocking sound that comes and goes. It starts out as a quiet clicking then gets progressively louder and then goes away. This repeats in cycles over 20-30 seconds. In the past, the dealer mechanics figured any clicking was just the injectors. If it were injectors would the sound not be constant? I've always wondered if it might be a faulty knock sensor.

This vehicle has always had the same promblem ever since I purchased it with 50,000 miles. It now has 190,000 miles and is still is a daily driver.

Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Scott

Probably a hydraulic valve lifter in need of more oil. They always want more! Not injectors, that would never go away, besides you shouldn't hear those inside the cabin with the windows rolled up. My old MPV had the same problem for 100K miles without any harm done.
If your knock sensors go, you would hear that only when you step on the gas and under load, not at idle. Besides, a certain little red light would come on and you would have to check the codes.

      Thanks Klaus,
Since the car still keeps chugging along I won't worry about it too much.
