W on the gear selector S80 2003

I have a 2003 S-80. What happens when I press the W button on the gear selector panel. I know it is for winter drving, but I don't know how it works. Is there a min and max speed that it can be use?? When can I engage and disengage?

You may engage/disengage any time. The W causes the tranny to start up in 3rd gear so you don't slip too much. I have never used it in my cars.

We got almost an inch of snow today in the Twin Cities, wow, bad year for snow lovers. Tomorrow it is supposed to go to -25. Don't try to bend plastic car parts :)
