Ya know, I didn't know the rear was supposed to lock first...thanx for the info, anyhow...

For what it's worth...I have seen, on several occasions, the lock actuator wiggle about half way free. One...the clips that secure that rear hatch panel in the back break, and now the panel wiggles, and vibrates, annoying the occupants with the noise, and the inner workings of the hatch with the constant thump, thump, thump. Add to that the up and down opening motion and closing (slamming) motion, and things just wiggle free.

To the two of you being thrilled by the mysterious remote ordeal, take off the rear plastic panel, secure every loose bolt in the rear hatch, and pay particularly close attention to the little box, with the little clear/white accordian looking top. Make certain it is tightly secured to it's little home. If it is, then most likely you need a new actuator. With the panel off you can have someone lock and unlock things so that you can see how they work.

Thanks Klaus. Where would that actuator be? Also not sure on the logic about the rear latch having to lock first. The problem with remote not locking occurs only when the trunk is already locked.
