Passenger door hinge broken on '96 850 850 1996

My passenger door hinge on my '96 850 is making a cracking noise and won't hold the door intermittently anymore. I've looked at it and it need to be replaced. One of the screws holding it onto the door is pulled out slightly. I looked in my repair book and they cover removing a door, but leave out replacing the hinge on the door. Is this a part I can replace myself and does anybody know where to acquire one?

Also my back hinges are getting weak. The rear door will come down while we are unloading things. If anybody has any advice about repairing this I would also appreciate it.

Justin

    Passenger door hinge broken on '96 850 850 1996

    Justin:

It is unlikely that the hinge itself is giving you the cracking noise. Chances are it is the "door brake", the gismo that keeps the door at half-mast and full open. The mount to the door frame fatigued and broke on my '96 850. The symptom was that it made a loud crack as you closed the door, when the door brake snapped past the detent, smacking itself into the cracked door frame. The fix was to get the base of the door brake welded to the frame. I just popped the door off and had my local muffler shop weld it up. Slightly tacky, but it was cheap and worked.

    Good luck! Larry F.

The hinges are not getting weak, the struts/shocks are. Replacements can be had at IPD, or anywhere else.
