Feedback about 2001 V70 T5 V70-XC70

I am looking at a used 2001 T5. What should I worry about/look for before I buy it (assuming I do)? The car has 46,000 miles, a manual 5 speed, 17in. wheels etc. It seems to run and drive nicely. Is this one I should buy. I'd appreciate owner feedback

Mike

I have 78k on mine - only gripes are the 'stop neutral'(it's a GT auto) and the upper spring seats going bad. This is the second V70 I have owned, and the 3rd Volvo. The other one is a 240 with 277k that I bought new and still own - and have never had a problem with.

Got mine 2 years ago with 46k miles. I'm at 73k now. I have an auto.

I've had the following problems which I've found others having in various Volvo V70 websites.

    - Upper motor mount. The rubber piece in the middle cracking. <$100 parts+labor.

    - Front spring seat. The parts that isolates the spring against the body frame seems to be failing. It is very noticable sound (clunking frontend) so you should be able to tell before you buy.

    - Burn out light bulbs in front and back. A common complaint. Cheap to fix and can do it yourself.

    - Cracked front light glass. Seems to have happen to a few others as well. Should be able to tell during visual inspection. Get the ipd lens cover to protect yourself ($60).The glass is part of the whole assembly and cost >$300, don't know about labor. I just patched up the small hole with clear plastic for now to keep the moisture out.

Have a couple of other problems which others don't seem to be having. So I'll skip these.

    Good luck.

We bought one with auto and 26k on it back in July. We had some initial issues (new tranny being one of them...shouldn't be a problem in an manual) fixed under warranty. Fun car! We have one rattle in the rear passenger side pillar and it drives me nuts if the radio is off. It comes and goes. Other than that the car runs great and it a joy to drive. So quiet!

Just got the windows tinted :D http://www.deepnet.info/swedespeed/gallery/v70xc70/MakoCSH.jpg

    Mike,

If you can, try to get an extended warranty on it. If it is through a Volvo dealer, they should be able to give you one that covers everything to 100,000 miles.

I purchased a 2001 T5 (Manual tranny as well) with 28K on it. It now has 46 K on it. So far I am really happy with it. This is my 3rd volvo.

I average probably 26 or 27MPG more if I baby it. Extremely comfortable and the 5 speed is pretty much bullet proof. Remember in Europe they can't give away automatics so the manuals seems to be built very well.

My only complaint, I have had alot of little anoying rattles come up (All of which have been fixed by me) So, now it is tight quite etc.

P.S. I paid 16,500 on ebay for mine. 28K 5 speed, 2001 T5. (It was a manual tranny in Arizona which is why I think I got such a good deal) Warranteed through Volvo for 100K. which covers everything.

    Good luck.

How did the warranty work? Was it purchased from a dealer on Ebay or a private seller. I can just see myself buying a car from someone and having the dealership tell me to take a hike. I have never dealt with our local Volvo dealership, but I've heard mixed stories. Re Europe, that's where I got the bug. This past summer I drove from Munich into the Alps with a friend of mine in his V70 T5. Way smooth on the Autobahn (110+) and I swear that car (V70, T5) was on rails. Not bad for a wagen.

Man, that was a steal! This one has a glove box rattle. That seems to be it. The dealership is extending a 100k warranty.
      Mike
