850 air conditioner quits cooling on hot days V50 1994

The air conditioner on my 94 NA 850 quits cooling on very hot days. It has manual control. I have recently replaced the evaporator and the system is not leaking. I have read in the forum that this appears to be a common problem.
Does anyone know the cause? It is summer in my country now, and there are no Volvo dealers where I live. When I turn the ac on it colls well and quickly but when the external temps are above 30 celsius or 86 F, sudenly it stops cooling and air temperature gradually rises. I have to turn it of and after about ten minutes I turn it on and it cools again. Any ideas?

Get a pressure gauge and hook it up to the low pressure side. Turn the AC on and watch it cycle on and off at 15 to 27 pounds? About that. When it stops cycling, note that you no longer have enough pressure to cycle the clutch on the compressor. The low pressure line is cold before it goes through the firewall and the return is getting warmer. You need to add more R134a, about 1/2 can.
Like all 850's, they leak. Slowly, like the lines cannot handle the high pressure when the engine has been turned off.
If the above doesn't make sense, email me.

If that doesn't work, check the radiator thermostat or coolant temperature sensor. Usually the computer will shut down the air conditioner if the coolant is too warm or it thinks it's too warm (this would be indicated by the compressor not running, as opposed to it running but not making cold air).
