Oil Change V70-XC70

Hi everyone:
If I do my own oil change on a '98 V70, I'll have the front wheels up on a ramp.
1. Does it matter if the car is not level when draining the oil?
2. What oil do you recommend?
3. What filter do you recommend?
4. What else do I need?

Thank you all.

If you change the oil less than every 5000 miles, and you are not towing a trailer or doing some other severe service, then a mineral (regular) oil should be more than adequate. Use exactly the grade that your owner's manual recommends for your temperature range. The synthetic is probably better, but the difference in wear characteristics are unlikely to be significant (i.e., other components in the car will disintegrate or fail long before the engine will due to the difference in mineral versus synthetic oil). I recommend the stock Volvo oil filters. Enjoy!

Even of it were tilted forward, you wouldn't get all of the oil out - there is still some in the oil cooler. I change mine on the ground and I have sport suspension, it's a little tight. I use cardboard as a creeper and floor cover.

I use Mobile1 10W30, a Mann filter, and a crush washer. I torque to plug to 26lbs. I also only change the oil twice a year, Spring and Fall. I change the cabin filter in the Fall.

I'll just add, use an aluminum crush washer, and if you're going to be changing it on a regular basis, look into getting a Fumoto drain valve.

I second the Fumoto oil drain valve. I've used them on all my Volvos since 1997 and it makes the job easier without any chance of oil leaks and stripping the plug if overtightened. The valve is brass and steel and only takes a quarter turn to drain the oil. No oil gets on your hands and a oil change would be a very "clean" job if you didn't have to change the oil filter at the same time. UGH! You can take the Fumoto valve from car to car as the drain plug is the same on all of them.

Where can the Fumuto drain valve be purchased?

            Chris,

            Here's where I got mine.

            http://www.lubricationspecialistllc.com/index.php

F104, ADP104 (the adapter to fit the recessed oil pan plug location) and the safety clip, including shipping for a nice price!

        I still use........... V70-XC70

Dino oil on my V70R AWD..........I simply drive mine up on the "flat side" of a 12 inch long pieces of 2x4 to give it "just" a bit extra height to get under. I cannnot get it up on ramps as the bumpers scrape the top of the ramp. The plug and filter are extremely easy to get at and drain pretty cleanly! Do it every 3500 miles......takes about 1/2 hour!
