Cigarette Lighter Fuse Keeps Shorting Out 850 1994

It has come to my attention that my cigarette lighter receptacle no longer outputs 13.8 VDC.I discovered that the fuse that connects to the output was busted.I replaced it with a new one.Unfortunately,it(fuse)shortly got busted again.I always use the receptacle to power my mobile phone or satellite radio receiver. Is the receptacle at fault here?I know that the'female'receptacle does wear out after ten years of use! What do you think?

Cigarette Lighter Fuse Keeps Shorting Out 850 1994

When I bought my car, the socket was blowing fuses as soon as I turned the ignition to on. After 3 fuses (I'm slow) I thought to look at the lighter socket. There was a small safety pin crammed in the bottom causing the socket to short out (and blow fuses). Used some tweezers to pull it out and no problem since. Might be worth a quick inspection.
