Intake runner operation check 850

I read in Haynes that the 850 engine's have two seperate air intake systems that are controlled by engine vacuum. Is this correct and if so is there some way to easily check if the system is working ? I have a 95' non turbo.

There was a flap system in the intake runners of the 93' 850's
But it was eleminated by 1994.
