What is the black box on my C70? C70 1999

I have a 99 C70 convertible I just bought used. I was changing filters, topping off fluids, etc, when I noticed something I cannot identify. Under the hood on the passenger side between the filler for the wiper fluid and the power steering fluid reservoir is a black box roughly half the size of a car battery. The bax has a flat oval air hose leading into it, and a round hose leading out that goes through the firewall. Just curious - what is in the box and what does it do?

I believe you are describing the engine computer ECU, the box is cooled with air from the passenger conpartment and the oval shaped hose is the exhaust air.
