Electrical Problems? 850 1993

Ok so here in atlanta it finally dropped below freezing and well the car is sick. I am having problems starting the car, it sounds like there was an arcing on the battery so i tightened the terminals..ok seemed fine but then driving the battery light on the dash came partially on, sometimes more than others and then sometimes lighter and going away. The manual says its the generator belt is loose, which is the main serp belt which I checked and seemed ok and I find it hard to believe it is loose. So what other suggestions do you guys have / experience, I'm kinda paranoid now that the battery may not be charging fully and I'll end up with a dead battery, but the car runs fine w/ heat on and headlights radio the works, and seems like the batt light gets lighter when I'm running more stuff. Any suggestions?

Also I still have not replaced my knock sensor A6: 1-4-3 yet but have ONLY run on premium and reset the computer every time the CHECK ENGINE light comes on. Would this electrical issues have anything related, I know it sounds silly but hey its a brick who knows.

Erik

Your altenator probably needs new brushes. Take it to an altenator shop to replace the brushes, or DIY.

Ok well I replaced the batt (late nite Walmart run!) because the old one was not sure how old. Cleaned the terminals and good connections (doesnt make that arcing noise now). Started up no problem, but batt light still there not fully bright but barely visible, is it definitly alternator? Going to call mechanic tmw, guess another repair to the brick?

I would still say it is the alternator. Your Local Autozone or any local shop should be able to run an electrical system check on the car and determine what is wrong. Autozone does it for free as far as I know. I sense a rebuilt alternator is on the horizon. Didi mine in my 93 850 at 80,000 miles. Was not worth the tropuble of replacing only the brushes, bought a rebuilt Bosch of internet with a two year warranty.
