Radio Volume Knob problems 850 1994

I have a very minor but annoying problem - the volume knob on my radio (pan pot) fuzzes and makes the right speaker cut in and out until I play with it (up down volume, pressing slightly on one side but not enough to make pause happen). Is there an easy way to remove it and clean it?

Go to Radio Shack and buy an aersol can of contact cleaner. It comes with straw like WD-40. Remove stereo knob and spray all around volume control. $10 dollar fix.

I have the same problem, but just haven't taken the time to deal with it yet (because of other, more pressing issues with this 850), so when you find a solution, please post! Thanks.

    Hi Tina,
Your problem may not be with your radio, but with your right hand speaker.
I have the exact same problem happening with mine. To me it seems like a
poor connection or nearly blown right hand front speaker. If it does turn
out to be your head unit, then remember that you MUST have the reset code
for any used unit you buy. Installation of new/used radio is @ 10 minutes,
you can email me for instructions if needed.
Good luck, and please post the solution to this problem once resolved.

New knob is 10 bucks at dealer. This fixed it for me.

I had the same problem with my radio, very annoying. I didn't try to take it apart and clean it, but what I did do is buy a good used radio off eBay for about $60. It was even an upgrade to a Premium Sound and the difference was very noticeable. If you have good luck with eBay, I would try there. Many different 850 radios will fit your car even if they are from a different year. Removal of the radio is supprisingly easy: take a small flat-head screwdriver, and push it the two flushmounted tabs lightly until they click and spring out on their ow, and the grab them lightly and pull them until they stop, and then remove the radio. I hope this makes sense, good luck.
