850 won't start 850

I drove my 1993 850 130 miles , left it outside in 7 degree weather and it will not start.
the car cranks, but there seem to be no spark and it does not even try to start.
any ideas?
is it the camshaft sensor or fouled plugs?
HELP!!!

They sell really bad gas in CT, at least they did when I lived there. Could it be that there is water in your tank and the fuel pump now won't work? Add a can of Dry gas to your tank and retry tomorrow, then fill it up with some really good brand gas.

Checking the fuel pump is a little more involved. If there is no fuel at the rail then there is a way to remove the fuel pum relay and jumper the terminals to make the pump run. Neither the pump relay or the fuel pump commonly fail on the 850. If there is no pressure at the injector rail then fuel system is probably faulted somewhere but not necessarily the pump. Cam positon sensors do fail. The crank position sensor will shut the engine off it it fails while running. The cam sensor will continue to run until you shut it off and then will not restart. You can check for spark as always by pulling the coil wire off the distributor end and hold it about 1/4 inch from ground. If there is spark and fuel it should run. areful not to crank engine with coil wire not in close proximity to ground.

Sumpmnu,

Isn't everything more involved. To be clear, if bypassing the fuel pump relay causes the pump to run, then it's a bad relay correct? If by passing the relay and there is still no pressure at the rail, what else could cause the pump not to run/no pressure at the rail? Is there a way to remove the fuel pump and test it on a bench or does the pressure have to be measured?

So many questions so little time.

Thanks

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the fuel pump. Mine went at 135K miles. There is an easy (relative to your skills of course) way to check it. Disconnect the fuel line at the fuel rail (it may be under some pressure so keep a rag over it) and have someone turn it over. If fuel sprays (be ready with a jar) your pump is good. If there is nothing, you need a fuel pump.

Replacing the fuel pump is easier than the above check. I replaced the CMP sensor and didn't need to. I wish I had known about the above check.

Good luck.
