Engine Temp takes 15 minutes to get close to normal range

Hello all,

I noticed that the temp gauge takes a while to get up to the normal range and when it does it seems to be lower than it used to be. Is this the thermostat? What else can I check?

Thank you.

    Thermostat.

Next thing should be the "Check Engine" light should come on, and throw a code for the coolant temp sensor. But it's not the sensor, it's the thermostat. Replace the thermostat (cheap) and clear the code.

(Then thank the Volvo gods that your thermostat failed open and not closed!!!)
