Cabin Filter V70-XC70 1999

Is this a must item? Car has 70K. Should it be changed?

Marty

I saw one comment mentioning $35. for the ACC in cabin filter (as it is called.)

Using a shopbot a few days ago, I found these ACC in cabin filters to cost from a low of $19.99 up to about $25. (plus shipping) depending on the brand (Bosch, etc.) You might also check the price at www.vlvworld.com and www.ipdusa.com.

Getting one from a dealer costs a bundle. Shop the web and save.

Marty,
Volvo feels that it extends the life of the A/C evaporator. If it has never been changed it's a good idea. A 15 minute clean DIY job BTW.

Wow, sounds like I owe the BB another one.

Best regards to all,

Given how easy it is to replace, and the fact that you are breathing the air that it filters, I wouldn't think twice about replacing it. I changed mine at about 75k - the old was filthy and falling apart.

The cabin filter keeps all of the outside dust/dirt from accumulating on your fan blades. You only need to change it if you want to extend the life of the cabin fan.

Long history here...this is just not for the fan, it's to keep the air conditioning evap clean, and the cabin filter was added in 1997 to 1998 to help stop the huge number of $1000 avap failures. The grunge on the evap was thought to have held dust and moisture which not only smelled bad, but somehow also rotted the evaps. I change mine once a year.

I agree...I had a '94 850 wagon without the cabin filter and Evap. replaced twice at about $1000 each, and that was NO FUN. Save yourself the head ache and the $ and get the $35 filter replaced ASAP. Like mentioned here, you can do it yourself.
