Cmanzi--do a program check first like the man said. Turn the key in the ignition all the way over without engaging the starter, five times, and on the fifth time leave it on. Then press down on either the lock or unlock button. On my 97 wagon the security light on the top of the dash will start to blink and then glow steadily and finally go out, telling you that the programming is finished. Both the remotes on my 97 finally gave up and I was looking at a couple of hundred for two. I popped off the back and replaced the batteries, but it was nada, no difference. Incidentally, opening up the remote is no trick. Take a kitchen knife and use the back edge to pry open the remote on the fob end. Any other place is futile. After replacing the batteries and not noticing any difference, I reprogrammed both and this worked. For a while. I think what happens is that the receiver in the car which receives the signal from the remote, finds it difficult to recognize the code after a while, and reprogramming the receiver by clicking on the remote and sending a new signal straightens things up. Failing remotes are a money maker for Volvo, so naturally they or Robert Bosch, whoever makes them, design them to have a short operating life. Dick
