Dash Dimmer 850 1995

OK, the dash dimmer slide on the 850 is acting up. The lights dim or go out randomly. If I play with the slide (push it up or down slightly) I can usually get the lights to work again.

Is this a 'take it out and clean the contacts' part, or a 'replace the POS' part?

I plan to replace those stupid little backlights for the outside temperature/clock while I'm in there.

Thanks,

Mark

If it works when you wiggle it up/down, it is getting worn out. Any junk yards where you live? I would get a replacement, set the lighting where you want it and leave it alone. You may find getting it apart will ruin it. Find one from a 97, then the lights inside the switches can be replaced when they eventually burn out.

195.5 miles on the same clutch? Do you speed shift a lot? I bet there is no wear on the clutch pedal :) Nice job. It is time to hold a class on HOW TO SHIFT.

Klaus,

I don't understand what you mean about the '97 and being able to replace the lights inside the switches...I always set the dash lights low, thinking that the bulbs would last longer.

Thanks for the compliment on the clutch. I am going for 225k. The clutch in the RX-7 was original when the engine was replaced. The wife probably drove that one 100k and I drove the rest. On the 850, I am probably responsible for 170k and she did the rest. We try not to abuse the machinery... It's expensive to fix.
