Jet Engine?!?!? V70-XC70

OK...when my cold start air-pump kicks in............it sounds like a "jet engine"!!! While my son thinks its "cool", I wonder what it means about the pump! When it shuts off, it glides "nicely" to a stop with no grinding or bearing noise. Its been doing it now for about 4 months. I also had put the 1/8 drain hole in about 1 year ago! Any thoughts? These volvos can make you INSANE!!

I like your choice of station wagon! Could it be the hole causing the whistle? Put a piece of tape over the hole, on the outside, and see if it goes away. Or perhaps when it was wet the fan moved in it's mount and is now touching some plastic?

pretty good barn burner!!!!! I like the power and these recent snows we had are no problem! Its nice when you go to "squeeze" the throttle to have that extra omph! My son goes nuts when I mashit on the highway and she just keeps "pull'in"
thanks to the HP turbo!

Don't think it's the hole, simply because my '98 S70 GLT does the exact same thing, and I've certainly not drilled anything.

If the noise is short lived until the engine warms up, only happens on cold start ups, and there is no water sipping out of the hole you drilled, then you're OK. Don't worry about it.
