1999 XC AWD without Turbo? V70-XC70 1999

A dealer has a 1999 XC available with 65,000 miles asking $13,900. It does not have the turbo engine. I was not aware that the XC model was made without the turbo. Anyone have any input on this and is $13,900 a good deal?

I didn't think this car could come without a turbo, but just to be safe (cause stranger things have happened) I checked VADIS. There is only one motor listed for a 99XC, and that would be a turbo motor. So no, this car has a turbo.

Now...be it known the 99 is the FIRST YEAR, for the drive by wire, CAN system. I will not, in good conscience, advise anyone to purchase a 99 Volvo. I'm hesitant in saying moderate things about the 2000, and will advise anyone who has decided that they MUST have a newer model to at least get a 2001.

Further, I think that price is a bit high. A customer of mine just purchased a 2001 V70T (not AWD) for $13,000. Granted, this is what the dealer had in the car (we who own businesses must pay Uncle Sam on the 31st) so he was "liquidating". I'd suspect used car dealerships in your neck of the woods would be doing the same.

Hope this helps,
Chris

There is no such animal. The confusion comes because he is expecting something on the car badge like "T-5" or "2.4T" or just "Turbo" like almost every other turbo-charged Volvo, or perhaps a boost gauge like all pre-1998 turbo volvos.

This reminds me of when I answered an ad for a '89 760 with a "six cylinder turbo". I had to count out the 4 spark plug wires for the disbelieving owner (it had the same 4 cylinder turbo as the 740) who was convinced that since the badge said "760", it MUST have a six cylinder. There are always exceptions.

On the price, I would recommend running a "True Market Value" appraisal on edmunds.com. Unlike Blue Book and NADA, the pricing is realistic and adjusted for location. Based on a quick check and without a lot of info (options, conditions, location, color) I don't know, the price is in the ball park for a dealer. You could certainly do much better though a private owner, as I did, but with more hassle. Also check out cars.com and autotrader.com, if not ebay.

The XC model, at least in North America, was only produced with the light-pressure turbo engine. And, it would take a heck of a lot of work to install the non-turbo motor in one with all the needed software changes.

What kind of dealer? Does it have all the records? I can't help with the Turbo question. It seems a little high unless it comes with a warranty.
