how to reset the Code 313 trans switch fault lights? 850

Now that the trusty 850 is at 190,000 miles and the weather is cold the gear selector switch has decided to not switch properly anymore. The transmission is great and works properly (the same as it did when new!) but because this switch is not working correctly once it faults it leaves the transmission in a 3rd and 4th gear only state (sometimes). Anyway, It also puts the "engine service" light on and the "transmission arrow" light flashing. I had the dealer reset the lights the other day since I didn't have time for them to replace the switch but it happened again and I'd like to do the reset myself in order to use the car properly until I can bring it in for the switch replacement. Is this easy for someone without an OBD machine to do? Whats the process???

If you have a 93-95, you can do it yourself. See procedure at FAQ 700/900 or go to Bay13.
If your car is 96 and younger, you need a scan tool.

I have a 1997 850 sedan and currently have the same of similar problem. I recently had the an oil seal replaced. Everything was operating great until I changed my battery. After changing my battery, it won't go in reverse gear. The trans arrow and the check engine light is blinking. Do you think my problem could be the switch? If so is it difficult/costly to change? I'm about 60 miles from a dealer. Can I or my local non-Volvo mechanic change it? Any other suggestions regarding my problem?
