Crank, crank, crank, strong gas smell, finally starts, runs fine. 850 1996

Greetings. Car sat for 2 days, about 15 degrees. Almost started on first crank, but stumbled & died. Cranked 3-4 times for 5-10 seconds to no avail. STRONG gas odor inside car. Pushed throttle when cranking & finally started; now runs like a top. No engine light or anything.
New fuel filter this summer, no other weird idling or anything.
Was this fuel-line freeze up or ?

    Sounds like it flooded. A word to the wise. Never put your foot on the gas when trying to start a fuel injected engine; it'll flood 9 times outa 10.

      Yep, engine flooded because of the 'almost started' condition. Flooring the pedal actually is recommeded when the engine has flooded! This tells engine management to STOP the gas supply while the starter is engaged.
