850 sunroof

I have a 96 850 and the sunroof will not slide back. It will pop up when you press the switch one way and when you push the switch the other way it drops down a bit but, will no slide back. Is it possibly the motor and if so where is the motor and how do I get to it. It it a hard job to change the motor.

It's not the motor. Remove the cover over the motor housing, explained in the owner's manual, and try to move the sunroof back by hand - without forcing it! A cable may be off track.

If you are in a cold climate, then you may have ice on the guides
which is jamming the sunroof.
If not, then it is most likely not your motor but probably the
drive mechanism that retracts the roof.
Not a fun job to undertake.
I had to do this on my old 760 a number of years ago and it required
removal of the headliner and the sunroof itself.
