Thermostat V70-XC70 1999

Greetings,
I have a 1999 V70 XC and for a bout a month now when the temperature drops down my wagon fails to heat up. Does anyone out there know what is involved in changing the thermostat in one of these? I used to do this on old domestic cars and they were a snap. Im not so sure about the Volvo...
Thanks,
Marc

The V70 is a snap too. Cost you $10-20 for the thermostat and new rubber gasket, and about a half hour. You probably don't even need to buy anti-freeze to top off. The housing is on top front of engine, on passenger side, slightly hidden under a fuel line that gets in the way some as you work the Tstat housing out. The only real hitch is that the housing is held in with two large screws with Torx slots, not Phillips. These screws are fairly fragile, and more than a few DIY'rs have used the wrong size or held the driver at an angle and broken off part of the screw head. Get the right tool (I don't know size off hand, but someone here will tell you) and don't over stress things - not much torque required to set the housing. I usually break teh fuel line connection above the t-stat housing to make it really easy, but I think others leave it alone. It just unbolts and separates, goes back same way with no bleading or fuel loss to worry about.
