850 turbo wagon blower motor 850 1997

My blower motor is starting to sing to me . especially after it warms up .
Is there any way to tell if it is the motor or wheel or both before I tear it apart ,so I can order just the parts I need. Thanks.

Probably just repack the bearings with grease, unless there is play in the shaft. Then it would need new bearings as well.

It looks to me like the bearings were permanently lubricated. My fan is also often noisy and the rotor doesn't turn easily by hand. Sometimes it has stopped running. I cleaned the bearings superficially and lubed them with a little heavy oil. Also I cleaned up all connections and the commutator with very fine abrasive. This worked for well over a year but seems to be going bad again. I guess water and dirt get in sometimes.

Did you somehow get the motor bearings out and relubricate them? Do you know if they're available by themselves as a replacement item?

      Many thanks.

A dealer will require total replacement. Small electrical shops may or may not open the motor and rebuild it - for a small fee. Water better not be getting into your fan. It will coat the fins with dust unless you have a cabin filter and change it once in a while.
If you oiled the bearings, run the fan at high speed for about one hour to help the oil do its job. Just like a home ceiling fan which is only ever run at low speed, it will start to make noises.
The only fan I ever took apart completely was from my extinct 780. It no longer made screeching noises when I got it to turn freely and the blades were washed with soap and water!

      Thanks, Klaus .
      I'll give it a shot.
