On my 2nd CD changer, the car is 2 months old. Smoke filled cabin XC90 2005 XC90

Hi I was wondering if anyone has been having problems with their cd changers in the 2005 XC 90 T6. I have an indash 6 disk and the things keeps blowing up and eating all my favorite cd's, which the factory has to remove from the changer. I'm on number 2 and working on my third! I know there are a lot of people who work at Volvo service centers that read these forums cause that is where I heard about this site..........do you guys have any feedback for me?
Thanks,

    Scottsfire,

Unbelievable...My 2005 XC90/T6 is less than week old and the CD changer crashed yesterday after only 1 hour while playing 6 CD's on "random"...crashing during a shuffle cycle. Error message now flashes 'Deck Error'...unable to eject CD's

Sound familiar? What corrective actions/support have you recieved from Volvo/dealer. Would my experience be helpful for you at this time?

    Thank you

    JimF

      Hi Jim,
You know....now that is ironic cause ours was on shuffle too on the first replacement and the second one locked up with the same error but it was extremely cold and eventually did clear itself. The third is doing the same thing depending on shuffle and seems to be cold. The nice thing about this one is that it too eventually unlocks and plays. Unfortunately, until I see a correction from the factury on these things I've told my wife to just play the radio...........its freakin sad that in a $50,000 vehicle we can't play cd's without loosing them.
Oh hey..........here is the even better news......we haven't got back our first set of NEW cd's that were in the changer when they replaced it the first time (December). Talked to Volvo and they said it would be 6 months. So I would recommend until a factory recall on these that you burn your albums using a computer (a copy) and only put those cd's in the changer that way if it locks up you still have your favorite albums original.
I'm curious.......do you live in a cold enviorment and listen to shuffle mostly?
      Thanks,
      Scott

        Hi Scott,

I expect my Volvo dealer in Michigan knows about CD changer problems...and this early failure is unexpected and disappointing. This is my wife's second XC replacing 2002 XC70.

New CD changer was loaded with her CD's for the first time yesterday, and set up to run on "Random" It failed to continue playing after an hour prox while trying to shuffle to next song. The car was warmed up, and outside temperature was 30 degress. Th CD's are still in the changer...eject button is useless

Information we are sharing suggests that Volvo has a chronic problem with these units. Symtoms are too similar. I can appreciate your frustration and lack of confidence...wondering how my experience will be as I get into the problem

What error messages are you getting now when CD changer locks up? How has your experience been with Volvo getting unit repaired/replaced? Are you talking to Volvo NA?

        Jim

          Hi Jim,
My error message is something like "deck error" and yes........all my research points to a shuffle problem. EVERYONE on all of the other forums too, that has had a bad changer it's always on SHUFFLE. So, I guess we should let Volvo know since they obviously don't know about the problem........or do they and don't want to admit it.
I've kept ours off shuffle and have not had any more problems.
          Sad isn't it?
          Scott

            Hi Scott,

Thanks for confirmation of the changer problem. I shared our similar symptoms(SHUFFLE) with our dealer. Best part of our story was that the CD Changer ejected all 6 CD's same day we scheduled car into the dealer last week!...and of coarse acted normal after that. However, the dealer accepted our explaination of the problem...and to be sure problem doesn't come back, ordered a new unit. In the meantime, my wife plays one CD at a time without a problem...Sound familiar?

No admission by Volvo/dealer in my story, assuming they know at this point, but sense a genuine concern in wanting this problem to go away. The quick decision to swap out for new unit is first clue, this visit handled promptly while we waited.

            Jim

BTW... to remove smoke odor, buy some AtomosKlear, sold at True Value or Ace hardware stores. It also gets any organic odor out, on contact. Just pull the radio out, two squirts, and slide the radio back in. Will also work on cabin filter, trunk smells, hocky/football gear, garbage cans, etc. No perfume.

    Don't be nice XC90 2005

Go visit your salesman on Saturday afternoon when he is with another customer and LOUDLY ask when you are going to get your third CD player and is he ever going to get the smoke smell out of the car?

You paid for a new quality car, which includes all of the parts. Write to Volvo USA and let them know there is an issue here. Besides, did the dealer replace your ruined CD's?

Yea........no kidding. I bought the car with great confidents from this guy. He informs me that Volvo will be calling with a survey over the phone. So I give him high marks. Once the survey is over I'm treated like a nobody from the salemen and service center....like I'm bothering them. I'm the one that has remained calm and prof. throughout this process and yet I get attitude. Its unfortunate but its going to come down to me taking your advice and doing that in front of potential customers.
I had a great experience at Volvo in Baldwin St. Louis....was treated fairly etc. Now I come back here to put up with these antics from the dealer I paid $48,000 for a car.
Oh by the way......it takes Volvo 6 months to return cd's stuck in one of their changers. Guess what....they have 12 of my cd's.
Maybe I should drive 11 hours to West County Volvo in Baldwin MO to get treated right and get my problems fixed.
      Thanks again for your feedback,
