TRACs - retro fit 850 1996

I have moved to the snowy north and wondered if I can have TRACs installed on my '96 850 wagon. Is it strictly an electronic installation (switch and some new board) or is there other hardware that must be installed or replaced?

    Every review described the TRACS on the 850s as an ineffective POS, so why bother? Get the right tires (TireRack is excellent, super website) and you won't have problems.

      Inb my experience the Tracs works very well indeed.
      Especially in this recent blizzard.
      Of course I have Nokian Hakka on all fours.
      Wish Tire Rack carried these #1 world rated snows.

      I have 2 850s, both with tracs, one I run snows tires and the other all-season.

      And on both I really like the tracs and think it is worth while. But then I live in the Catskills of NY and have more snow covered roads to deal with then most. I've 'buzzed' (sound sound of the tracs in operation) by even v70s that where spinning their tires on the way to the ski slopes.

    I could be wrong, but as I understand the TRACS system it actually uses the ABS system to determine wheel spin and control the spin. So in order to retrofit TRACS you would also need to retro the ABS. Probably possible if you work hard enough at it but I would think better to get ABS/TRACS package on next Volvo.

    This question has been brought up before and there was no definite answer, since nobody has actually done it.
    Until now.
    I have 4 Volvos, one of them is a 96 850 GLT ABS only, I rebuild the ABS units for Volvos, so I have all the units available for my 850.
    On Monday, I purchase the pump and valve block that includes the TRACS. A quick glance at the wiring diagram tells me that my car does not have the TRACS switch.
    Other than that, on the surface it appears that everything else may work.

    So, until I install the pump there is no definite answer.

        Yes please. I had tracs on my saab 9k's and miss it greatly, especially living in MN.
