Seeking fellow 850 owners advice... 850 1995

Hello All,

Unfortunately the end of the road has come for my beloved "Ingirid", a '95 Turbo sedan. Due to the engine overheating I have blown a gasket and done much damage to the cylinder heads. Putting in a new engine is the most cost effective measure right now, but in the mean time I have purchased another vehicle and am now stuck with a beautiful shell of a car with no working engine. I do not want to pump more money into the car just to turn around and sell it. Making a few phone calls I have found out that parts/salvage operations are only willing to give me at most $150 for the car, with the Blue Book value being aroun $5000 if the car had a working engine. Do any of you know of a place that will purchase my car, just being a shell with no working engine, but still give me a fair price, rather than a few hundred dollars?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Michael Heinisch

....for a project Volvo "beautiful shell of a car"... where IS it?

The engine/transmission survival rate of 850 engines is definitely higher than the body shells!

(General geographic area, is it within towing distance???)

I am located in Atlanta, GA...too far away? Thanks to all for the great suggestions and advice. I am weighing all of my options, but feel like I have a better idea of what direction to go in.

Don't forget about the new IRS rules that just went into effect Jan 1 for auto donations. If the charity sends the car to auction, you can only declare the value received at auction. Much different than in previous years.

    Motorless 850 for sale 850 1995

That could make for a good parts car, or if you invest about $2,000 for an engine replacement you could sell it for about $4,000 depending on the condition of the rest of the car.
Why not try posting it for sale in the board's classified for around $2K and see what comes along? Don't forget to be very prolific in your write up about location, miles, dings, rips, worn spots, dirt, tires, wheels, etc. Unlike a newspaper, you are not charged by the word.

    Lots of luck,

    Klaus

If you have the patience and time, sell it in parts on eBay and you'll make $500 plus easy.

When you auction the heavy items, ie doors, hood use local pick up only, no shipping. The smaller items like switches, ECM, etc can be shipped easily.
