killing 'Check Engine' light 850

I'm going to trade in my '97 850 soon and i don't want to put any more money into it. How do i turn off the check engine light?...or is there any auto-type chain that can do it for free?

Thanks,
-mango

Some state regulations do not allow them to turn it off, only read the codes.

What is wrong with the car?

V708BB,
Thanks for responding. I don't think that there is actually anything wrong with it. The car is running fine, the light just came on the other day. I'm going to be trading it in this weekend probably, and i don't want the dealer to take even more money off the low, low trade-in value. As it is, if the car was in "excellent" condition (according to kbb's definitions), i'd still lose money based on what i owe. Do you happen to know what states aren't allowed to turn off the light? i'm in Illinois...

Not sure about what states, but as suggested earlier, go ahead to autozone and have them read it, and ask if they can reset it after too. All they can say is no. Good luck!

If you have the radio code. Disconnect the battery overnight. It should reseet the code.
