Driving in snow with TRACS, noises 850

So I was driving in the snow today and as I was trying to climb a hill in 12"s of snow, I could here a hum from the front end occasionally--is that the TRACS working or TRYING TO WORK? it was hard to say weather it was working. Kind of a hmmmmmm, light clunk noise.

The noise you heard is probably the TRACS system doing its job.
At speeds below 25 MPH, when a traction wheel looses traction, the ABS/TRACS system will kick in and will activate the brakes in the wheel that is spinning to send the power to the other wheel(s)(wheels for the XC).
The pump motor will run and valves will be openning and closing. You will hear the sound of an electric motor and ratcheting sounds, some people have described it as a spring ratcheting sound.
As long as the ABS light is OFF and the TRACS light is OFF, the system is doing its job.
