I recently purchased a 1994 volvo 850 turbo wagon. THe car runs great except atfull throttle it tends to cut out. TO a novice like myself my guess would be a fuel issue. But I thought I would ask the question "is this a common problem or a simple fix?" before I blindly started replacing parts to try and fix this.

When you say "cuts out", do you mean that you hear a bang and throttle response goes away. Does it only happen above 4000 rpm? It could be the turbo waste gate which opens when boost gets too high.
If it is a low rpm, no boost, then the engine is flooding. Check the codes before you do anything rash. If you don't know how to check the DTC, look at the FAQ's for 700/900 on this site and then go to Volvospeed.com/maintenance for an explaination of all the codes.

There is no sound the car just shudders. This is happening at a varity of speeds but is most noticiable when merging on to the freeway or passing.

Still sounds like the waste gate is opening prematurely. Did you check engine codes yet?

Doesn't this car have an automatic engine cutout at a certain speed?
My 1994 850 NA does.
