As V70bb says.....you may NOT have it. You should have in the center front of your dash a little red light beacon stand.........if ya do ya probably have them.

Jeff,

Be careful not to confuse power door locks with remote functionality. I too have power door locks on my 98 V70, but I do not have remote and the associated electronics that go with it, and the dealer does not offer a retrofit for this. However, aftermarket systems are available. Google "remote door lock" and you should find something.

Unfortunately 98's require a trip to the dealer. Dealer has special equipment to program your car to accept the codes from desired remotes. I learned this the hard way after purchasing a couple of extra remotes off Ebay. Dealer here estimated ~$70 to perform the service.

I was just going to post a similar question. I contacted a local garage about how to program an OEM remote and they looked up the steps and gave them too me. I haven't really tried them yet, but they claim all you need to do is turn ign. off and on 5 times, wait for indicator, push button on remote and if the dash indicator lights it has accepted it as a new programmed unit.

Doesn't work for the '98 models. You're not really programming the remote--you're programming the car to recognize the remote. 98's need the dealer. I think those instructions only apply to 850's--I tried the procedure you mention when I first got my extra remotes--didn't work. Also can't reset the service light on '98's without a service light reset tool--seems like it's the only year with that requirement. Drives me nuts.
