S70T What throttle control unit does this use S70 1999

Fellow bricksters.

Posted a couple of times previously in regards to buying a S70. However been edging away from the 99-01 models based on some very frightening reports I read on brickboard about "denso" I think electronic throttle control unit. I have since found a 99 S70 Turbo and I believe this comes with the much more reliable Bosch E.T.U. is this true??

Has anyone found any problems with this unit? Also is there anything in particlar that I should especially be aware of because of the turbo motor (never owned any turbo's before).

Thanks in Advance.

Jason.....

Avoid S70 1999

the drive train (engine, tranny, turbo) is not the problem with these cars. The electronic throttle system ETS is.

Avoid '99 and '00 unless they come with an extended warranty.

Or unless you figure in the cost of a replacement when you buy the car, like I did. Now have 101,000 miles with no sign of a problem (X).

It really doesn't matter what system you have Denso, or ME7, a 99 S70 will have a unreliable electronic throttle body, unless it has been replaced already. The sticker on it will be yellow if it has been replaced.

Don't let it scare the hoo haa out of you though if it is a really good price; that is what extended warranties are for. However, I do urge people to purchase 2001 up if at all possible.

Hope this helps,
Chris

Chris,
The famous ETB is by Magnetti Mirelli - Italian; from 2003 (or maybe even late 2002) they started to install a different design (Denso, Bosch ? not sure)
the yellow sticker ? what does it mean ? is the ETB still the same, by MM when replaced ??

Yellow sticker just means it has been replaced somewhat recently; the original ones that came on the car had a white sticker; no clue about where or whom or how the throttle body is rebuilt; I never delved into it that far. I do know that one customer, formerly of the dealer, more currently of ours, had the throttle body replaced on their 2000 model at the dealer a couple of years back. The sticker on this one was white...so maybe the yellow stickered ones are the "better" ones you speak of....I dunno...

regardless S70 1999

don't know who makes the new yellow tagged units, but from my readings, there is still a high failure rate within 30K miles of replacement.
