'98 beats '99 easy. No electronic throttle in '98

      Go with a Standard 98V or S... V70-XC70

and you'll have the most minimal of BIG problems compared to 99 or 00. Also stay with FWD as AWD's are too particular.

The 'Volvo 240 Luddite Syndrome' V70-XC70

When I bought my V70 in '98, the last "red motor" Volvos were 3 years old, and all those FWD and AWD Volvos were just a "flash in the pan".

Volvo would soon come to it's senses and start producing the 240 again.

It must be contageous. I keep postponing buying a V70R because it's so much more complex than my T5!

My point? Yeah, there's no DBW elecronic throttle on the '98s. It doesn't need frequent talks with the mothership's computer in Gothenburg

But the newest of the throttle-cable cars are now 7 (seven) (VII.) years old!

I am still waiting like you V70-XC70

          Bill,

I am also waiting for the RWD 240R manual wagon with 265 hp, in hunter green with 17" wheels.

I bet you the 240 will come back (nostalgia), but not for another 10-15 years.
