car starter in operation, can car easily be stolen? S80 2005

Can a vehicle become more easily stolen if it is left warming up with the use of an automatic car starter? Thieves targeted an affluent neigborhood and took advantage of higher end cars and SUVs left idling with doors locked and no key in the ignition. I assume the car starter disables the security system and a chip in the key is no longer required to be in the ignition for the car to drive away. Does it really become easier for a thieve to steal the car? http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle....storyID=7422113

I didn't get to read the article, but a lot of Minnesotans have remote starters. It is against the law to leave your car while it is running and the car unlocked, or the keys in the ignition.
If you have a remote starter and the car is locked, the thief will have to break in, brake the steering column, and turn off the alarm. The alarm is not turned off by a remote starter, just bypassed.
