Wheel Size on R cars V70-XC70 2005

I have 4 mounted Gisleved Snow tires on 16inch Volvo Rims. Anyone know if these will fit on a 2005 V70R? I'm thinking that a 16inch wheel won't fit over the big Brembo Calipers..
Also, anyone know if a standard Volvo 17inch wheel will fit? Thinking of keeping a set of "Amalthia" rims for snows.. thanks.

I'm pretty sure that if you look it up in the R owner's manual, they'll caution that for winter, you should use the same size wheels and tires as the stock R 3 season tires. The implication is that the multitude of R computers and sensors may get confused otherwise. I'm also fairly sure that 16" wheels won't clear the big Brembos. A 16" with it's higher sidewall would otherwise be preferable for winter, IMO.

The thought of immediately spending another $2000 in wheels and tires made me defer my purchase, first until spring, now until fall! (The latest rumor is now that the Rs get a larger twin-scroll turbo and 30 more HP for 2006.)

I have had to deal with that very issue with my R. I have 17's, which if you will look at IPD's website, will fit over the Brembos, but that is the smallest wheel size you can use. For winter tires I used to go with 185-65-15 and pure snow tires, which is what the manufacturer calls for, but after my snows wore out I bought a set of 4 triple treads instead, which work great in snow and on the dry or wet roads, but at the size of 195-60-15 for a standard 850 tire size. It doesn't affect the speedo or the turbo since I have kept the ratio as close to the same as possible.

I am pretty sure that if you choose to, you can buy 17" snow tires although they are quite expensive.
