oily underneath !!!! 850

I went out and changed oil today and when I removed the plastic cover I discovered that the tray was saturated with oil. This is a 93 850 glt. Is there any frequent gasket or seal failures accompanied with this model that I should look at??? The oil plug was tite and showed no oil leaks there. I saw no evidence of bad valve cover gasket. Check your pcv valve, it is most likely clogged and causing a leak. The rear main seal may be bad also, very tipical for these cars.

Leave the air dam off for a few days and wipe up some of the oily spots from the motor/tranny. When you see a fresh spot of oil, check up there. My 95 had an oil line connection go bad at the radiator which leaked all over the air dam and I couldn't tell where it was coming from.

I also have a 93 850 GLT w/166K on it. Just had same problem oil was coming from RMS (rear main seal). Look underneath the car towards the back of your engine next to the tranny. If engine oil is coming from around there, it is most likely your RMS. Has it ever been replaced? With high mileage it's fairly common for them to go bad. I paid $600 at my local indy mechanic in So. Calif.
Good Luck,
