Possible Trans issue??? 850

I have what I think is a rear main seal leak. I am taking the car into the shop this week for the repair. The car has 109,000 miles on it.

My question is regarding what I noticed today. While backing out of my driveway in reverse and coming to a stop on teh inclined I placed the car into park. Instead of stopping the car stiddered almost like teh ABS system was kicking in. There was no ice on the driveway today (in PA) but I just washed the car and it was very cold. I did it again when I checked for ice on the driveway. Could the rear main leak have an effect on the trans when going into park. Anything I should ask the shop to look at while the rear main is being worked? The trans and the engine have never been opened before so if there are any parts that need replacing at this time I'd love to hear you thoughts.

Thanks

Re-read your post, the others are boring. Have you flushed your tranny fluid? It just might help the parking gear problem.
BTW, IPD sells a tranny filter. Buy two, one for both cars. They are less than $25 each.

I spoke with the dealer after having my rar main seal replaced (ouch$$$) and he said the slip coming from the trans is associated with something called a grabber gear (might have the exact name wrong.) As the tech explained to me(and I may have some details incorrectly translated here) the gear is pushed into gears on the trans when you place the car into park. The popping sound you har is this gear trying to lock into the trans gears to stop the car from rolling while in park. This is apparently common and the tech took a look at my trans while the rear main was being replaced and said it looked fine and not to worry.

I picked the car up last night and gave back the XC90 AWD loaner. It is a greatfeeling to get back into your 10 year old car that holds its own against a new $45K vehicle, still gets me around in comfort and saftely with milage anywhere from 22-27 MPG and is fully paid for. The older Volvos seem better built and will last much longer than the new model in my opinion.

The thread above is good because it discusses how it was done, and other things you should consider replacing in the process.

I copied this from Scott's reply, might help.
