Is my battery going? S70 2000

Hello everyone....Left my golve box door open a few weeks ago...car still started..barely. Anyhow, it is the original battery from 2000. The car seems to take a few clicks to start now...also, and this is the weird part. If you are listening to a CD...and you are on lest say track 5 and you tun off the car...the next time you start it should be on track 5...now my stereo always starts on track 1..like there is a loss of connection when the car is not started...any thoughts??...if it is the battery should I go with OEM?...Thanks all

Test you theory by turning the key to the ON position without trying to start the engine. Does the CD player now continue from the last played track, or go back to track 1? If the former is true, your battery voltage is likely dropping during cranking to the point where memory circuits are compromised. This could be caused by dirty or loose battery terminal connections, or a high impedance cell (common near or at the end of battery life).

I agree with those who suggest, after 5 years of use, a replacement battery would be good insurance.

Lance......your now S70 2000

playing Russian roulette with a 5 year old battery! Any good interstate or die-hard would be just fine. Even a 4 or 5 year from AutoBone would be fine! Remember......Volvo doesn't have there own battery factory....they probably re-label an Interstate make........who knows!!!

Go with a better battery, not the Volvo. I've owned two of the Volvo batteries and both died at about the two year mark, and they died a quick death. They couldn't even be boosted.

Volvo clocks lose time no matter what battery you put in. I've never had a single other problem with a non OEM battery.

Interstate or Diehard are quite acceptable. Just make sure it is the right size and amperage for your model. 5 years is old enough for a battery, it has done it's job. Clean the clamps and use lots of dielectric grease.

Replacing the battery is cheap insurance against getting stranded. Any OBDII car should use only Volvo electrical parts and sensors. I've replaced a lot of non-Volvo batteries because the clocks lose time or the radio needs to be coded after the car sits for more thn a few hours.
