Scrapping noise out back V70-XC70 1998

OK...my 98 R AWD started making a "ringing/scrapping" noise in the back end that I can hear slightly in the car with windows up..radio off at highway speeds. If I drive next to a jersey barrier with the window down it sounds like something is rubbing on the rear brake rotor! Could this be the viscous coupling? Otherwise car is nice and smooth with no clunking, banging or vibration. Has been doing it for about 4 months now.

It may be the shield mounted inboard of the rotors. It's sheet metal and can be easily bent.
