What Motor Oil to USE 850 1996

Ok, I've been told several different about several different oils to use,,The one that's in there right now is 100% synthetic Castrol 10w/30. Any suggestions on which one to really be using for my 850 R??? Just tring to kill a dispute

    Mobil 1 10W/30 in spring/summer/fall even though it is no longer pure synthetic. 5W/30 or 0W/30 in New England cold winter time.

    Just to liven thing up, castol is not really synthetic anymore. Mobil one sued them to stop claiming this but lost the case.

    Interestingly though, the 0W-30 catrol made in Germany does appear to be a great synthetic oil. Much, much info is at www.bobistheoilguy.com it is refered to as GC there.

    What oil you use isn't as important as changing it frequently...every 3-5k..lean more towards 3K if you are using non-synthetic. What you are using should be just fine. My 854T has just about 115K. I bought the car with 57K miles in 1999. I have used Mobil 1 5w/30 for just about every oil change. I change the oil every 5k miles. Whatever you do, check the oil level frequently.

    What you have is just fine. I use 5W30, but it gets a little colder up here.

    The bottom line is whatever your owners manual recommends. Period.

        And the 850 manual strongly recommends synthetic for Turbos...

          I used Castrol in one of my earlier Volvos until I read up on the various sythetics out there, and Mobil 1 appeared to be the best. I drive a 97 850 GLT light pressure turbo. What's as important as synthetic in your engine is synthetic in your transmission if it is an automatic. And change it every two years. Period. Dick
